““There is always a reason for our story. Our wound is also our gift. It all began after seven years into my marriage and motherhood when I was at the end of my rope, worn out and lacking connection. I did not know where to turn and my first thought was escaping home to my mother with our three children.

Every single picture I created in my mind did not look like a good solution. Going home meant to take our children four thousand miles away from their father, away from their friends, having to face a new culture and language. Will I set the course of difficulty and detachment for my children right there and then? Will it be my fault if they fall behind at school or are seen as the new kid on the block, maybe rejected and feeling lost at such young ages? 

I could not bear these thoughts, so I got on my knees and cried. I cried so hard that my eyes were swollen, my voice was loud when I begged God for an answer towards peace and happiness in my marriage and family. Soon after that I attended a lecture about emotional intimacy and the need for true attachment to ourselves and others. This struck a deep chord in me and it opened the door to a journey that would become my life’s work, coaching parents and families, and eventually other professionals. 

First, I found myself assisting this therapist, who became my teacher. The first day translating his lectures to my good friends in Europe at our seminar I could hardly speak the words into the microphone and had my first little breakdown at lunch time. Having lost my appetite, I knocked on his door, tears streaming down my cheeks, stuttering the words: “I made already so many mistakes, I am such a bad mother. It’s hopeless.” He laughed. It was such a compassionate laugh that it ripped me out of my crying mess, and I heard the liberating message that it is never too late, I would be able to adjust, re-attach and repair.

This began our life-long friendship and journey of learning and eventually developing the most unique tool for family healing, the Two-Day Family Healing Intervention, traveling the world and creating amazing breakthroughs between parents and children who experience detachment in their relationships.

As you can see from this story my choice was not running away from what appeared to be an impossible situation. I chose to stay and face all the issues we both brought into marriage and parenting. I hope that this can become your choice too. 

After these many years of my own path and helping clients I am convinced that we have great chances to improve any relationship, and most of all we have amazing power as parents to heal our children. We can resolve dysfunctional generational patterns and create a healthy model for our children to inherit.”
